In 9ja: JTF uncovers weapons of war in Kano, some foreigners arrested.

Yesterday in Kano, four foreign nationals, suspected to have hailed from Middle East, were arrested by the Joint Task Force over a large cache  of arms and ammunition uncovered in their  mini-warehouse located on Gaya road in the Bompai area of Kano.

The owner of the complex, where the dangerous weapons were impounded has been identified as a Lebanese national. He was arrested by military personnel.

Security sources disclosed that items recovered from the extensive operation included 40 air-to-surface missiles, 50 cluster bombs, 200 rocket-propel launchers, eight AK-47 rifles, 200 military hand grenades and some military hardware capable of destroying  Armoured Personnel Carriers.

A  resident of the area, said he counted over “300 AK-47 riffles” during the evacuation.

In 9ja: JTF Attack Staff, Patients At UMTH For Lack Of Space To Drop Dead Bodies

In the early hour of today, the Joint Task Force wreak havoc at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Borno state.

Hakika blog receive reports that the JTF officers demanded for space in the Hospital’s mortuary, for some dead bodies to be put and when told of constraint of space, they opened fire and physically brutalize members of staff of the health facility.

Many of those beaten include doctors, nurses, the private security operatives guarding the facility and even some patients.

A young Doctor Abdulhakeem Mamman lamented the incident by writing: 

"Still can't come 2 terms wit d circumstances surrounding d barbaric n inhumane harassment our noble teachers Prof. Ngadda n Dr. Bashir Tahir suffered this morning in d hands of illiterate security agents for refusing acceptance of corpses in UMTH mortuary. I think, Nigerian Medical Association should immediately swing into action to forestall any further victimization of doctors because dire consequences loom large in d horizon if nothing is done. Period."

We didn't get any reports of death during the incident.

I had just gotten home from an outing that Sunday afternoon when my phone rang with an unregistered number showing on the screen. Scanning through a billion possible people in my mind (also hoping I had won a lottery or something), I picked the call and said the customary “hello”, deciding by the answer from the other end on what manner of voice I would use. The voice that hit my eardrum was, for lack of words to use, WOW.  My mind raced a mile a minute “which kind fine girl be this?” I thought to myself (for a voice that beautiful, her face had to be in agreement too now). When my caller introduced herself and the need to meet to discuss certain issues, I knew I could not pass up on this opportunity to tell the world about such a person and her ideas.

For posterity sake, I can now categorically state that the stereotype of beautiful women being too lazy to exercise their brains for anything other than the latest fashion trend or smart phones is a crime. You will do the same too after meeting Zelda.

Seated with someone else in her office in a plaza in Jabi Abuja, she was kind enough to grant me an interview after we discussed what she wanted to see me for. Below for your reading pleasure are excerpts of the interview, exclusive to HakikaBlog.

UPDATE: NAF releases names of Niamey Jet crash pilots

Nigeria Air Force, yesterday, gave the names the two jet pilots, who lost their lives in the fatal Alpha jet accident that occurred in Niamey forty eight hours ago are Squadron Leader Benjamin Ben Ado and Flying Officer Ayuba Joab Layelmenson..

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, paid condolence visits to families of both officers in Kaduna and Kainji.

Both of them were young men with one survived by a child, while the other officer was a bachelor.

A statement by Air Commodore Yusuf Anas, Director of Air Force Public Relations said:

“Ado hailed from Konchisha Local Government Area of Benue State and was a member of the 50th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy. Flying Officer Layelmenson hailed from Azare in Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State and was a member of the 57th Regular Course. He graduated from Hellenic Air Force Academy in July 2011 and was commissioned as pilot officer. He was an instructor pilot and has flown many aircraft types in the inventory of the Nigerian Air Force as well as Pakistan and the United states. The senior officer was married and blessed with a child."

3D printing has been hailed as the future of manufacturing.

The technology works by building up layer upon layer of material - typically plastic - to build complex solid objects.

The idea is that as the printers become cheaper, instead of buying goods from shops, consumers will instead be able to download designs and print out the items at home.

But as with all new technologies, there are risks as well as benefits.

HBC: Omoh! Let them stop this thing OoO! The reason why Nigeria's crime rate is rising exponentially is because of our government's inability to hit the insecurity problem with common-sense. 

-1- Our security forces need the best and the latest equipments to work with or at least, they should be better equipped than the criminals. If for instance you are armed with a machete in a fight and your enemy has a machete too, there is already a 50:50 chance of you winning the fight. And if your enemy is willing to give his life fighting for: his belief, a cause or the millions of naira he is earning that you want to put a stop to and you are fighting (not willing to give your life) for your country (that doesn't give-a-damn about you) and for some small change at the end of the month that is called "Salary", hahahahah...your chances of winning the fight is now down from 50% to 10%. 

But if your enemy has only a sword and you have a loaded riffle, it is enough an intimidation to make your enemy surrender or suffer the consequence.

-2- Without proper and regular training to out security forces on how they can effectively perform their duties with courage and professionalism, even if provided the best tools, they will end up performing rubbish like we are witnessing in the recent Baga incident where over 200 people lost there lives and over 4000 houses where burnt...so sad that lives means nothing in Nigeria anymore...

The Nigerian government has summoned the management of Elbit Systems, an Israeli security firm contracted to spy on Nigerian Internet users, for a meeting to explain why the contract should not be revoked after it allegedly breached a confidential agreement in the contract.

The management of the Israeli company are expected to first appear before two Nigerian security chiefs – the national security adviser and the director general of the National Intelligence Agency – in Abuja this week. They would then be taken before President Goodluck Jonathan, who is miffed that Elbit’s action had let this newspaper to probe into details of the secret contract.

The security chiefs will relay government’s anger over Elbit System’s ‘breach’ of confidentiality in the $40million contract which will see the Israeli company spy on citizens’ computers and Internet communications under the guise of intelligence gathering and national security.

The Nigerian government is angry the Isreali company went public with the contract, in a global press release that tipped off PREMIUM TIMES which, after extensive investigation, revealed the details of the deal.

The disclosures sparked national outrage, with a lot of Nigerians now apprehensive that their country might be sliding back to dictatorship.

A source close to the deal has told this newspaper the government is angry for two reasons.

First, the administration is angry and embarrassed that the contract, considered by government as top national security secret, has now been blown open.

Elbit announced the contract award few weeks ago in a global press release in an opaque statement that did not disclose the Nigerian destination of the deal.

#KidnapMata: Monguno's Family believes that Military J T F Kidnapped him, not Boko Haram.

These are the words of Hussaini Monguno, a relative of the abducted Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno.

“The kidnappers called the family and demanded that the Federal Government release Boko Haram members in detention. They also gave him (Monguno) the phone and he spoke briefly saying the Federal Government should release the detained sect members,” he said.

He said, “We don’t believe that it was Boko Haram that kidnapped Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno. We believe it is a diversionary from the heinous crime the military has committed against the people of Baga. They didn’t expect that international agencies have the satellite images of Baga before and after the massacre.

There are an estimated 10,000 people in the Mursi tribe. The Mursi are sedentary rather than nomadic. The Mursi have their own language called Mursi, which is classified as one of the Surmic languages. The Mursi have a reputation for being one of the more aggressive African tribes and are famous for their stick fighting ceremony donga.

Here are some facts that Hakika Blog have been able to gather, we hope you like them:

-1- All men of this tribe have Kalashnikov rifles (AK47), illegally transferred for them through the border.

-2- They are considered the most aggressive ethnic group.

-3- Women to wear large clay or wooden discs or ‘plates’ in their lower lips.

-8- The size of their lip plate indicates the number of cattle paid as the bride price, so the bigger the plate the more the cattle......NUTSSSSS!

-9- Mursi women adorn themselves with lip plates.

-10- Having a piercing and a lip plate was originally done as a tactics to keep-off slave hunters/traders. The slave traders find them very UGLY, so they don't capture the ones with pierced lips.

In 9ja: JAMB cancels 40,692, results and withholds 80,419

JAMB has withheld the results of 80,419 candidates among those that sat for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination last Saturday’s 2013 .

JAMB Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, said  during the official release of the results on Friday, that 12,110 of the 80,419 candidate's results are withheld for a possible disciplinary action while 68,309 results from various centres are still undergoing further screening,

“About 40,692 results were invalid due to multiple shading or no shading at all,” he stated.

A total of 1,629,102 candidates applied to sit for the Paper Pencil Test (PPT), while 15,008 candidates applied for the Dual Based Test, bringing the number of candidates  to 1,644,110.

“The general performance of candidates in this year’s examination shows remarkable improvement compared with last year".

Assessing the results, he said 10 candidates scored 300 and above, 628 scored between 270 and 299, 33,115 scored between 250 and 269, while 704,622 scored between 200 and 249.

About 571,298 scored between 170 and 199; 103,489 scored between 160 and169 while 127,017 scored less than 159.

The registrar assured the candidates that their results could be accessed on the JAMB Website: www.myjambresult.com using their registration numbers.

Giving an assurance that a computer based test will still hold on from May 18 to June 1 as scheduled, Ojerinde appealed to candidates to print fresh e-registration slips to further ascertain their centres.

Breaking News! 92 year old Borno Elder Alhaji Shettima Ali Monguno Kidnapped!

92-years old former Nigerian Minister, Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno has been kidnapped in Maiduguri, Borno State Capital today. Mr. Monguno was kidnapped after Jumat prayers as he was leaving the mosque.

The Borno Elders led by Ambassador Gaji Galtimari are currently having an emergency meeting with the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima, and security chiefs.

The meeting is about the kidnap of a former minister, Shettima Ali Monguno. The meeting is being held at the family house of Mr. Monguno adjacent the Borno Government House.

In his reaction before the closed door meeting started, the governor said that it was “inhuman for anybody to kidnap a 92-year-old man,".

Governor Shettima said he had spoken to President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, over the kidnap. He said it was only a “mad man that will harm an old man.”

Also attending the meeting is the State Director of the State Security Service, the State Commissioner of Police and all other security chiefs in Borno.

The house, which is surrounded by security operatives, is also filled with hundreds of sympathizers some of whom are shedding tears over the kidnap.

No group has claimed responsibility for the kidnap, although kidnapping for ransom by the Boko Haram has been on the increase in Borno and the Joint Task Force has also warned about it.
